Registrations for this year’s Sydney Edible Garden Trail are open, and one Hawkesbury gardener has urged fellow residents to share their gardens, too.
Angela Bichler has already registered her garden, The Family Paddock for the annual garden trail event.
“It’s actually a spinoff from the Blue Mountains Edible Garden Trail,” Ms Bichler said.
“We’re calling for garden hosts to register.
“We’ve had a maximum of 70 to 75 hosts.
“I’m trying to engage more in the Hawkesbury.
“Mine is a self-sufficiency demonstration farm in the making.
“I hold set tours twice every weekend day.”
The last couple of years enticed many people back into the garden, and not just to produce beautiful flowers.
Many people are beginning to grow their own foods again, like Ms Bichler’s family at The Family Paddock.
“In my retirement, I want to teach self-sufficiency,” Ms Bichler said.
“Our aim is to be fully self-sufficient.”
Ms Bichler said there were a lot of people in the Hawkesbury region with big gardens, that they have worked wonders in.
She said the idea of the Sydney Edible Garden Trail was to showcase organic gardens that may or may not be complete.
It’s about getting the idea out there that creating an edible garden is not hard and sharing ideas about how they have achieved their own.
“They don’t need to be magnificent or spectacular,” Ms Bichler said.
“They don’t have to be perfect.
“Everyone’s interested in seeing what others are doing.”
If you grow your own organic food have you ever thought of sharing your knowledge and passion with others?
The Sydney Edible Garden Trail welcomes private, community and school gardens to participate in its annual event.
The garden trail will be held on November 4 and 5, but garden hosts can find out more and register now at https://sydneyediblegardentrail.com/register-your-garden/.
