The Jeremiah Project invites the homeless, the vulnerable and the rest of the community to a Christmas party.

The Jeremiah Project is having a Christmas party on Saturday, December 14 from 11 am to 2 pm at 7 Fitzgerald Street, Windsor, and everyone is invited.

Founder of The Jeremiah Project Jacky Turano said there would be food, drinks, music and gifts.

“We invite our volunteers,” Jacky said.

“We invite the homeless.

“We invite the vulnerable and other key community members.”

The Jeremiah Project was registered as a charity in 2021, but Jacky started it back in 2019.

“I currently have outreaches at Parramatta, Mt Druitt, Windsor and Richmond,” Jacky said.

“It’s more than just food.

“We take them to dentist appointments, doctors appointments, cancer appointments.

“It’s more than feeding the homeless.”

The Jericho Project helps hundreds of people.

With the rising cost of living, many more people are needing help; many people that would never have needed to ask for help before.

“It’s the elderly, and it’s heart breaking,” Jacky said.

“Imagine your parents lining up for food.

“They’re not here because they want to be.”

Jacky was the Chair of the Hawkesbury Community Kitchen, but running both charities became too much, so she stepped down to focus her efforts on The Jericho Project.

At the moment, The Jericho Project has no door to knock on, Jacky and her volunteers set up and pack-up chairs and tables at parks, including McQuade and Richmond Parks.

Jacky would love a venue they could call home; a space where people can visit for help and a good chat over a cup of coffee; a place where they can get the help that they need.

“I’d like to be a one-stop-shop,” Jacky said.

“I’d like to have a counsellor, psychologist.

“If we get a property that needs renovations, I want all hands on deck - a plumber, electrician…”

“One point where the community can come to see me regularly.

For Jacky, it is more about building friendship and relationships and connecting with the people that she helps.

“I’m a pastor and I have a pastoral heart.

“I want to help them to achieve their goals.

“Many of these people get into housing and then lose it because they are not taught how to use money; how to budget.

“We don’t want to see them back on the streets.

“We want to give them hope and a future.”
