Save The Date For Windsor High School Car Show
Windsor High School is busily preparing for its next Car Show to be held on Saturday, October 15.
The first time Windsor High School will host their annual family fundraiser on Saturday, October 15.
The first time they put on their Car Show, their expectations fell far below reality, according to organising committee member Gail de Raadt.
“It started on a whim, really, to see how it would go,” Ms de Raadt said.
“We are now in our third year.
“We had two years off because of COVID.
“Last year we had the floods.
“We had it but on a smaller scale because we had to have it in the carpark.
“We’re constantly getting people asking whether it’s on.
“Last year we had space for 125 cars, but we ended up fitting 250.”
They had 150 cars come the first year along with 700 members of the general public.
“We’re expecting at least 400 cars this year,” Ms de Raadt said.
“Some are coming from the ACT and Hunter, but most are from Hawkesbury.
“The Hawkesbury is a big vintage car community.
“There are brand new cars, cars over $100,000, World War I and World War II vehicles and trucks.”
Ms de Raadt said that they were fortunate to have the ongoing support from Kennards who have sponsored the event each year.
“They give us electronic signs for publicity, but there are rules about where they can be put up,” she said.
“This year, we’ve also partnered with 7/Eleven across the road from the school and they own a little piece of land that they have let us put the sign up there legally.”
The event has grown so big that Kennards has given the group four portable toilets to use.
We run the event on a shoestring, as every other fundraising group does. Everything about the show is car themed.
Even the drinks cart is a Combi.
In past years, the students have made the trophies out of old car bits and auto parts purchased by the P&C committee.
Photography students take the photos, catering students organise the coffee and scones, and music students and singers provide the entertainment.
Display cars and bikes must be set up between 7 am and 9 am, and their $10 ticket covers the driver only.
Gates open to the public at 9 am, for an entry fee of $5 per person.
Along with the car and bike show, the day will include antique machinery displays, market stalls, a jumping castle, face painting, raffle and fundraising activity, barbecue, coffee, cakes and live entertainment.
The event may be cancelled at short notice in the event of inclement weather.
Dogs, alcohol and smoking are not permitted on the school grounds during the event.
