Richmond Lions Winter Sleepout allows them to present the Hope4U Foundation with a $10,000 cheque at a recent Lions dinner meeting.

The Richmond Lions Club welcomed Lisa and Bianca from the Hope4U Foundation to their recent dinner meeting to present them with a cheque for $10,000.

The funds were raised at the Lions’ inaugural Richmond Lions Sleepout held at Richmond Park in the dead of winter, July 27, 2024.

Richmond Lions were joined by other members of the community that night, putting themselves in the shoes of people experiencing homelessness and trying to raise awareness of the situation.

Richmond Lion Scott Hinks said the sleepout really went well.

“It wasn’t just a sleepout, there were all the people that came out to support us, and more importantly, so many people have already said they can’t wait to do it again in 2025,” Scott said.

“It’s going to be an ongoing venture between us and the Hope4U Foundation.”

Scott said the funds raised would help with the programs the Hope4U Foundation had for Domestic Violence, etc.

The aim of the sleepout was to raise awareness of issues surrounding homelessness, mental health and domestic violence.

One of the highlights of the sleepout was the circle gathering where people shared their lived experiences, and sharing their feelings.

There were definitely a few conversations started at the sleepout.

The Richmond Lions thanked everyone who donated, visited or supported them on the night.
