Richmond Lions Scott Hinks and Warren Doyle will enjoy the comfort of their sleeping bags at tomorrow night’s Lions winter sleep out at Richmond Oval unless someone comes forward with a last-minute $2,500 donation.

Richmond Lions Club’s first ever winter sleep out has finally arrived.

Tomorrow night, Saturday, July 27 members of the Richmond Lions Club and anyone else who cares to put themselves in the shoes of a person experiencing homelessness to raise money for and awareness of the situation will converge on Richmond Oval from 7 pm.

Everyone sleeping the night will be provided with a cardboard box ground sheet, but need to take their own sleeping bags.

If you’re not up to sleeping out in the cold, you can drop in and listen to people with lived experience of homelessness, mental health and domestic violence share their stories around the campfire and enjoy some of the entertainment organised for the night.

The aim of the night is to start a conversation, to get people communicating about the issues of homelessness, mental health and domestic violence as well as raising money for Hope4U and Jarron Project.

The Country Women’s Association ladies will provide hot, delicious soup and bread, while another group will have cakes.

If you intend staying all night, don’t forget to hang around for the famous Lions barbecue breakfast on Sunday.

The Lions’ GoFundMe page has successfully raised $6935, increasing their initial goal of $5000 to $10,000.

As yet, they have not had any takers for their $2,500 donation challenge whereby Lions Scott Hinks and Warren Doyle promised to forego their sleeping bags for the night.

The Jarron Project plays a crucial role in the community by providing essential mental health counselling, grief counselling, and support for those affected by domestic violence.
