Anyone using a Return and Earn machine anywhere in NSW can help young people reach their potential by donating to their local PCYC using the Return and Earn app.

Police Citizens Youth Clubs (PCYC) across NSW have taken to turning bottles and cans into cash to support their life-changing programs for youth, raising more than $10,000 from 100,000 returned containers.

Since 2017, individual clubs have encouraged their local communities to donate the 10 cent refunds from eligible containers via Return and Earn machines and the Return and Earn app.

Almost 50 clubs are listed on the Return and Earn app, meaning anyone using a Return and Earn machine anywhere in NSW can help young people reach their potential by donating to their local PCYC.

Chief Executive Officer of PCYC NSW, Dominic Teakle said as a youth charity, PCYC NSW had been serving the community for over 85 years and was thrilled to be partnering with Return and Earn.

“All donated container refunds help fund programs in the local community,” Mr Teakle said.

“Your donation directly contributes to PCYC’s life-changing youth programs, which support vulnerable, at-risk and disadvantaged young people across NSW.”

PCYCs work with young people to develop their skills, character and leadership by encouraging them to participate in a range of activities to suit all ages.

The funds raised from Return and Earn help fund programs such as ‘Fit for Life’ - designed to engage youth aged 10 to 17 through physical fitness, nutrition, and social.

Since 2013, PCYC have held Nations of Origin tournaments where young people represent their Aboriginal Nation in Rugby League, Football 5s, Netball, Basketball, and for the first time this year, Gymnastics.

Nations of Origin was back in 2022 after a two-year break due to COVID, held October 5 to 8 in Raymond Terrace and the Lake Macquarie area.

The event included over 140 teams and more than 1,300 young people.

To participate in the Nations of Origin tournament, players must have at least 80 per cent school attendance, highlighting the importance of education as a foundation.

Mr Teakle said nearly 800 eligible drink containers were collected during the rugby league tournament and returned at local return points.

“The money raised through container returns went to the local junior rugby clubs who hosted the competition,” he said.

To donate to your local or preferred PCYC, select the club on the Return and Earn app when you scan your app on your nearest Return and Earn machine.
