Dads can feel stressed, too, that is why Richmond Community Services Inc is offering a targeted two-day program specifically for dads and male carers commencing on Wednesday, August 30.

Balancing the demands of life can be stressful for anybody; throw in raising a child or children and the stress can seem magnified.

Of course, Hawkesbury’s family men have been dealing with a lot of pressure over the last couple of years with floods, bushfires and a pandemic, not to mention the resultant weight of cost-of-living pressures.

Richmond Community Services Inc (RCSI) is running an excellent program for dads and male carers at the end of August - Stress Management For Dads.

The program was conducted last year with great success.

A spokesperson from RCSI, Brittany Vos, said they generally found that the majority of their workshops were attended by females.

“That’s why we specifically targeted this program to the dads, the men of the family,” Ms Vos said.

The program aims to help dads and male carers increase their skills in:

  • Regulating their emotions;
  • Challenging negative thoughts;
  • Stress management; and
  • Balancing the demands of parenting, work and self-care.

Ms Vos said that parents were generally just tired; exhausted, so finding any little skills they could use to help them was useful.

Post-COVID, programmed activities had been smaller and more intimate groups, providing a safer and more connected space for participants.

This program will be conducted over two Wednesday evenings, August 30 and September 6 from 6:30 pm.

Childcare is available if needed.

Bookings are essential.
