More Funding For Local Road Infrastructure Priorities
Member for Macquarie, MP, Susan Templeman and Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Minister, Catherine King talk road funding.
Hawkesbury residents will be happy to hear that Council will receive $1,087,629 and an additional $627,368 for local road projects.
The funding forms part of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, for which the Government extended the project construction timelines for Phases 1 to 3.
As a result, councils have until June 30, 2024, to complete work, giving them an extra year.
Hawkesbury Council has also been allocated $1,087,629 (Nominal Funding Allocation Part A) and $627,368 (Nominal Funding Allocation Part B) - a total of $1,714,997.
Hawkesbury Mayor, Sarah McMahon said the funding was a much-needed boost to the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program by the Australian Government.
“The Hawkesbury community will welcome this extended funding as it will ensure the huge pipeline of works currently underway in the Hawkesbury can continue,” Mayor McMahon said.
“This program is an important partnership between Council and the Australian Government that will create long-lasting benefits for our community by fixing our local road networks – including the significant infrastructure damage sustained due to the floods.”
Mayor McMahon said Council was getting on with the job of reparing local roads damaged by flood and extended wet weather periods experienced during the previous three years.
Repairs will be completed in line with contractor and material availability.
Council asks for continued patience as it works through a list of almost 400 projects costing around $240 million on top of the budgeted annual roads renewal program of $22.5 million and the more than $1 million in pothole filling this financial year.
Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman MP said Hawkesbury residents had seen how hard local roads had been hit following repeated flooding.
“This funding, targeted at regions like ours who have suffered profoundly from flood and storm, will lead to better and safer roads.
“I’ll continue to work productively with Hawkesbury Council to ensure residents see the improvements in our roads they deserve.”
Both Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Minister, Catherine King, and Regional Development, Local Government and Territories Minister, Kristy McBain said they were steadfastly standing by local councils to deliver this critical infrastructure.
