The NSW Reconstruction Authority launched its inaugural Living with the River photo competition at the REAL Festival by the Nepean River on Friday, September 20.

With $5000 in prizes up for grabs, the competition celebrates the Hawkesbury-Nepean River and highlights the need to be aware of the risks for communities living on the floodplain.

The Living with the River photo competition is running alongside the NSW Reconstruction Authority’s Disaster Adaptation Plan (DAP) development, to reduce flood risk in the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley, the first DAP in the state.

The final DAP will feature images from the competition, showing the river through the eyes of those living on the floodplain - in moments of calm as well as devastation.

Valley residents and visitors are invited to capture an image that illustrates what Living with the River looks like to them.

This is the community’s chance to get creative and share images that explore historical, cultural, recreational, and environmental themes of the River between Wallacia and Brooklyn.

The $5000 prize pool is open to primary school, high school, open, AI and semi-professional entrants.

The winning secondary student’s high school will receive an exclusive workshop led by a professional photographer, valued at $2000.

All entries must be received by February 2, 2025.

Selected images will be showcased in a public exhibition in the Hawkesbury-Nepean region and featured in the final DAP in early 2025.

Visit www.nsw.gov.au/living-with-the-river for the terms and conditions and to enter.
