Hawkesbury Welcomes New Aussie Citizens

Hawkesbury welcomes 120 new Australian citizens to the community at a Citizenship ceremony on Sunday, September 17 at Windsor Function Centre.

One hundred and twenty Hawkesbury residents became Australian citizens on Sunday, September 17 in a ceremony at Windsor Function Centre.

The new citizens came from far-flung countries including Belgium, Brazil, Britain, Canada, People’s Republic of China, Colombia, Czechia (Czech Republic), India, Indonesia, Iran, Republic of Ireland, Korea, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, United Kingdom, United States of America and Vietnam.

Hawkesbury City Council’s newly re-elected Mayor, Sarah McMahon said that one of her greatest honours as Mayor was to confer citizenship upon people from all nations on Earth.

“It gives me great pleasure to listen to every one of them, knowing that this day is bringng so much joy because they now belong to the very best country and can call themselves a ‘true blue Aussie’,” Mayor McMahon said.

“Whether we are citizens through birth or by active choice, Australian Citizenship Day is a chance for all Australians to take pride in our citizenship, celebrate our democratic values and think about what unites us as Australians.

Each new Australian resident comes with their own unique story of their journey to calling Australia home.

Federal Member for Macquarie Susan Templeman, State Member for Hawkesbury Robyn Preston, Air Commodore Bradley Carke from RAAF Base Richmond and Chief Inspector Peter Jenkins, Hawkesbury Policy Area Command joined Councillors Amanda Kotlash, Les Sheather, Paul Veigel and Nathan Zamprogno in attending the annual event.
