Christmas - it’s a season filled with magic, the tinkling of laughter carried on the breeze, the excitement of expectation hanging in the air and the as-yet-unfulfilled hopes and dreams dancing through our imaginations.
Unfortunately, it is also a time of great desperation, the silent sobs of defeat hidden in the night, the weight of expectation pressing down on over-burdened shoulders, and the empty void where hopes and dreams once lived.
It has been a harrowing few years, with multiple natural disasters and a pandemic followed by a hike in general living expenses, and it has been hard for many of us to bounce back.
That is why groups like Hawkesbury’s Helping Hands (HHH) are so vitally important to our communities.
For them to fill empty bellies, let alone get even close to meeting all the needs out there, the team needs helping hands of their own.
HHH has put the call out for extra volunteers for the Christmas season, particularly to help with hampers on Saturdays between 8:30 am and 12:30 pm and 12 pm to 3 pm both Saturday and Sunday.
They need at least three people per shift for meal service each weekend.
It is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in our community. HHH is an approved voluntary work organisation for mutual obligation requirements with Centrelink for Jobseekers.
If you can help in any way this season, please contact the team at HHH directly on 02 4577 7077 or email hawkesburyshelpinghands@gmail.com.
Priority needs recently include showers, food packs, batteries and extra blankets.
HHH would love to hear from any businesses willing and able to act as a drop-off location for hampers and supplies during the season.
