Rapid response of food and essentials distribution
Essential goods helicoptered to isolated residents
Food and essential supplies have been helicoptered and boated to isolated residents of North Richmond, Freemans Reach, Kurrajong, Glossodia, Wilberforce, Colo and Yarramundi.
A helicopter containing food and supplies was stationed on the Cricket Oval at Governor Phillip Park yesterday. Drop off locations included North Richmond and Wilberforce, ready for distribution by the SES and local police to various drop-off points in the area, such as Wilberforce School of Arts Hall.
The SES transported food, medical supplies and essential items to Wilberforce via boat, to be transported to Coles in North Richmond, and to the Council Depot located in Wilberforce.
The closure of Yarramundi bridge, Windsor Bridge, North Richmond Bridge and a landslide on Bells Line of Road at Mt Tomah blocked access for any incoming food and essential supplies.
Hawkesbury Mayor, Patrick Conolly contacted the Minister for Western Sydney Stuart Ayres and Deputy Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons regarding the access points of food and supplies being blocked by road via Bells Line of Road.
Local MP Susan Templeman has been in contact with Federal Emergency Management Minister David Littleproud regarding the access points of the west side of the river being blocked.
The Federal Government confirmed negotiation with major supermarkets regarding the distribution of supplies to the isolated communities.
The State Emergency Operation Centre stated they are providing assistance on resolving this issue.
The Hawkesbury Flood Statistics Unit states the Warragamba Dam spill will continues into the Nepean and Hawkesbury rivers, maintaining the major flood levels for the region. This indicated the delay in accessing paths to resources within the isolated regions.
