Dominique Finds Her Purpose In Life - Bush Adventure Therapy

Dominique Green spent about ten years working in and around the community services field, dealing with youth.
Her roles took her all over Australia, into remote communities.
“I went on my own soul journey, looking for my purpose in life,” Dominique said.
“I went into outdoor recreation.
“I actually got into rock climbing, meditation and breath work.” Dominique now has a Bachelor of Outdoor Recreation.
After finding her passion, Dominique still wanted to find a way to help young people, so she created her own business.
“I take young people out on adventures,” she said.
“We create these adventures together.
“We use visualisation and emotional regulation tools.”
The adventures can be one-to-one or group situations and include short respite stays.
Dominique said the adventures were really about discovering the best version of oneself.
“It’s about connecting,” she said.
“Creating the adventure they desire.
“We start with the focus on the activity and then they relax and open up.
“It all comes out.”
Dominique gave an example of a young person with whom she explored bushcraft skills, like starting a fire with a flint.
The youth, who suffered fear and anxiety around talking to people, was naturally gifted.
When some campers came across them and asked what they were doing, the youth naturally told them what they were doing and demonstrated lighting a fire with a flint.
“Here she was doing the thing that she was so afraid of without even noticing it,” Dominique said.
"You can’t create that in a room.”
Each day is designed around the needs and desires of the people Dominique takes out on her bush adventure therapy sessions.
A typical day begins with Dominique collecting the adventurers from their homes and driving them to a beautiful location in nature.
While exploring the great outdoors, learning fun new skills, meditation, breathwork and delicious food, Dominique supports her charges on their journey of discovering the best version of themselves.
It may involve learning how to discover one’s passions, making friends, learning to love oneself, achieving goals, learning more about oneself, feeling confident in nature and creating wellness routines in one’s life.
Afterwards, participants become one of the Connect & Explore Tribe members and can join group programs.
Dominique pick-up locations include Hawkesbury, Sydney, Greater Western Sydney, Lithgow, Blue Mountains and the Gosford area.
