The Hawkesbury Community Kitchen has been serving the region for the past 30 years, working hand-in-hand with The Jeremiah Project and linking with other community not-for-profits to see that the homeless, lost, lonely and vulnerable get at least the basic essentials the rest of us take for granted.

Chairperson, Jacky said their services were simple - a fresh meal, shower, washing and toiletries - but absolutely vital.

“Lots of people that come through are struggling to put food on their table, so our service helps their families to have a fresh meal for lunches and dinners,” Jacky said.

“It allows the homeless to have a shower and wash their clothes.

“It allows those struggling for groceries to receive non-perishable items.

“It allows the lonely to sit at our table and have a conversation with us.

“It’s at the table that the healing begins.”

The Hawkesbury Community Kitchen receives some funding from Richmond Club which helps pay the rent and they often receive donations from Rotary, but they are always needing funds.

“As the cost of living increases so does the demand,” Jacky said. The demand for funding isn’t the only need, either.

Jacky said in order for The Hawkesbury Community Kitchen and the Jeremiah Project to continue to offer services to homeless, lost, lonely and vulnerable, they need people with time on their hands and a generous spirit.

“We have approximately 50 volunteers serving Monday to Friday under The Hawkesbury Community Kitchen and approximately 30 volunteers serving Saturdays and Sundays under The Jeremiah Project,” Jacky said.

“We are always needing volunteers as lots come and go due to change of circumstances.”

The Hawkesbury Community Kitchen also accepts community donations or money or items such as personal hygiene products, detergents, etc.
