When it comes to scary atmospheres you can’t get much better than the scene at Bligh Community Services Inc’s annual Halloween event.
From 4 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, October 31 families will converge on Tiningi Hall, 139 Colonial Drive for a spooky good time.
Community Services Inc Assistant Manager Skye Humphreys said the whole community came together for a good time.
“We give away a few freebies and have a sausage sizzle,” Ms Humphreys said.
“Everything is free - we have about 500 sausages, so the first 500 will get a sausage; and we have a thousand lolly bags for kids.”
Their first Halloween event was back in 2021 - COVID was still a big thing and Cam from Aerosol Obsessions used to paint plastics with Pokemon characters and leave them around so that when children went out for a walk, they would find something interesting to see.
He came on board from that first Halloween event.
“Cam pays for all the outdoor photo props,” Ms Humphreys said.
“He uses black plastic wrapped between trees and paints on them.”
Some of the artworks have cutouts so that kids can pop their heads in for photos, some even have a spot for their puppy dogs.
Ms Humphreys said the Council came on as sponsors last year and again this year.
She also mentioned that kids could get a few scares as they walked through the haunted house. “There will be free spray-on tattoos, with stencils for design and face painting, with normally about five or six general designs,” Ms Humphreys said.
“It is always popular; we have quite long lines for that.”
Ms Humphreys said there would also be a jumping castle or two on the day and Bite Me Donuts and Mr Ricky The Icecream Truck will be on site for purchase.
“Peppercorn will also be there to do an activity with the kids,” Ms Humphreys said.
