Bilpin farewelled one of its hard-working members last week.
Robyn Vaha was a true cornerstone to the community, working with the fire department and the school.
“I was brought up in a family in a small country town where people just helped each other out,” Ms Vaha said.
“I lived across the road from the fire department.
“Bilpin is a beautiful community and everybody just gets in and helps.”
Ms Vaha took some long service leave earlier this year when she discovered 80 Mile Beach.
“I’ve been through a lot,” she said.
“I decided it was time to go on a new adventure.”
A position was advertised for a governess and nanny at 80 Mile Beach and, after thinking things over and deciding there was no harm in trying out, she resigned her position in Bilpin and started packing.
After a little send off from the local community, Ms Vaha packed the Ute, made sure her dog was on board and set off across the Nullabor.
