Australia Day Award Winners Announced

Hawkesbury’s residents, Council and political representatives celebrated their 2023 Australia Day Award winners on Thursday, January 26.

Hawkesbury’s Australia Day Awards ceremony took place at Don’t Worry Oval in Windsor, and what an occasion it proved to be.

After a Welcome to Country by Boorooberongal woman of the Darug Nation, Erin Wilkins and a spectacular performance by Jannawi Dancers, Awards winners were announced.

Hawkesbury Mayor, Sarah McMahon congratulated all award recipients, including 2023 Citizen of the Year, suicide support worker Diane Russell, 2023 Young Citizen of the Year, Emily Lowe and the Community Organisation of the Year - the Hawkesbury District Agricultural Association.

This year’s Hawkesbury Australia Day Award winners are:

  • Citizen of the Year, Diane Russell.
  • Young Citizen of the Year, Emily Lowe.
  • Volunteer of the Year, Phillip Giles.
  • Local Hero Award, Mitchell Brennan.
  • Community Organisation of the Year, The Hawkesbury District Agricultural Association.
  • Special Achievement Award, Michael Payne.
  • Junior Sportsperson of the Year, Noah Kemp.
  • Community Arts Award, The Hawkesbury City Eisteddfod Society.
  • 2023 Commemorative Plaque, Detective Inspector Bryson Anderson.

This year’s Hawkesbury Australia Day Ambassador, Greg Donovan spoke about the importance of charity and being involved in the community.
