Hobartsville among first communities in Australia to experience rollout of the Community Solar Batteries for Household Solar program.

Climate change is a phrase that has been on a lot of lips since before some of us had turned grey now.

The Community Solar Batteries for Household Solar program roll-out has begun in Hobartville with providers urged to present their expressions of interest.

We all want to do our part to reduce emissions and stop climate change, but can we really keep up with the rising energy and living costs?

We need to be sure that our power bill is not going to put us in the poor house.

Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman said she was thrilled to have one of the first community solar batteries in Hobartville.

“We know solar is some of the cleanest, cheapest energy available,” Ms Templeman said.

“One in three households have solar panels, but most of them don’t have battery storage.

“That’s the data that has helped determine Hobartville as a location, with a large number of solar panels, but low uptake of home batteries.

“The community battery will mean that homes with solar panels can store their solar energy for future use, and excess energy goes back into the grid to be used by the community.”

The program will enable the rollout of a pilot of 400 batteries in neighbourhoods across the country.

Hobartville will have one of the first community batteries in the country with far-reaching benefits.

It is expected that each battery would drive down energy prices for local households and help Australia move towards 82 per cent of renewables in the national electricity market by 2030.
