The Prime Minister Scott Morrison expressed his awareness of the food shortages affecting the communities, and the urgent need to improve the distribution of supplies to the isolated regions following the recent floods.
Mr Morrison visited the Hawkesbury on Wednesday, March 24 to assess the damage caused by the biggest flood to hit the region in over 30 years.
Heavy rains spanned from March 18 to 24 led to flooding of the Hawkesbury and Nepean rivers, which resulted in the need of rescue operations and emergency relief work in the isolated communities of the region.
Reflecting on the magnitude of the floods, Mr Morrison said he intends to return to the area to reassess the situation and reflect on the current issues the region is facing.
“I took briefings from the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and people in the community assisting with the recovery to get a better understanding of the issues," he said.
Our ADF are providing direct support to the search the rescue efforts and logistical support to air and water movements with the SES in the area."
